NEW DELHI: Leading opposition parties during discussion on Ram temple construction in Lok Sabha on Saturday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi attacked NDA govt, urging it to shun Nathuram Godse and his ideology.
Alleging that the present govt at Centre is discriminating among different castes and people following other religions, Gogoi also raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi being denied entry into a temple in Guwahati on Jan 22 when PM Modi had himself urged politicians across country to visit temples.
Treasury benches protested mention of the Guwahati incident. BJP‘s Nishikant Dubey pointed to the age-old practice of certain restrictions self-imposed by local temples as is the practice in some Muslim countries.Gogoi said today chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by BJP members reflect their anger and hatred, and they should shun violence as Lord Ram belongs to everyone and is in every part of us every moment. “You cannot be a Ram Bhakt if your heart is filled with hatred, if you fire bullets at others or desecrate places of worship of other religions,” he added.
Gogoi said there has been increasing number of attacks on SC/ST and OBC communities and that’s the reason they are demanding a caste census because they feel discriminated against when it comes to education and govt jobs, Gogoi said.
He said Sita never allowed her patience and divine energy to diminish, but the Dalit girl in Unnao or women sportsperson protesting ill-treatment did not feel the same. “They felt helpless,” Gogoi said.
