NEW DELHI: BJP on Monday highlighted allegations that Hindu women at Sandeshkhali were raped by “goons” having allegiance to TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan, wanted in the case of recent attack on an ED team, to claim that Hindus were facing persecution under Mamata govt.
Union minister Smriti Irani alleged that West Bengal CM Mamata Bannerjee is responsible for “genocide” of Hindus and has now given patronage to those raping Hindu women. She referred to the allegation of Sandeshkhali women that they were raped in the presence of police to say that criminals enjoyed state patronage. “In Sandeshkhali, some women narrated their ordeals to the media… They said TMC goons visited door to door to identify the most beautiful woman in every house and the young. The husband of identified women were told that they had no right on their wife. They didn’t leave them till they were satisfied…”
“TMC goons will take women to the party office… Night after night they would be kept there… till they were satisfied,” alleged a group of women in a video that has since gone viral.
In a sharp attack on Mamata, Irani alleged that she is known for facilitating “genocide of Hindus” and is now allowing her party’s workers to sexually attack women.
The attack from the Irani came following allegations by a group of women in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district that Shahjahan and his supporters captured swathes of land by force and sexually assaulted them. They demanded his immediate arrest.
