The Maruti Suzuki Brezza led the sub-4 meter SUV segment in August 2023, with sales of 14,579 units despite witnessing a YoY downfall of 4.09 percent as against the 15,193 units sold in the corresponding month last year.
The Tata Punch was the second best-selling model in the segment, with sales of 14,523 units, marginally behind the Brezza.
Punch sales saw an uptick of 20.09 percent as compared to 12,006 units sold in August 2022. It is interesting to note that despite Hyundai Exter emerging as its newest and direct competitor, the Punch remained unfazed and witnessed a significant growth as compared to over 12,000 units clocked in the preceding month.

Maruti Suzuki’s newest entrant in the segment, Fronx, which so far, has seen a good demand, completed the podium with 12,164 units sold. It was closely followed by Hyundai Venue that managed 10,948 sales, witnessing a slight drop in sales by 2.60 percent as compared to 11,240 units sold in August 2022.
The Mahindra Bolero lineup recorded sales of 9,092 units, an uptick of 10.26 percent as against the 8,246 units sold in August 2022. It was followed by Nexon, which dropped to sixth position in the segment, registering a substantial downfall of 46.64 percent. This decline can be attributed to the fact that the company is set to launch the facelifted versions of the Nexon and the Nexon EV tomorrow.
Hyundai Exter sold 7,430 units while commanding a market share of 7.57 percent while registering a 6.14 percent MoM growth.
Mahindra Thar clocked 5,951 units, an uptick of 56.89 percent as compared to 3,793 units sold in August last year. It was followed by sibling XUV300 that managed to sell 4,992 units, growing 15.50 percent on a YoY basis.
Kia Sonet sales fell drastically at 47.44 percent at 4,120 as compared to 7,838 units in the corresponding month in 2022. Maruti Suzuki Jimny stood at 3,104 units, registering a 17.84 percent downfall on MoM basis.
Nissan Magnit sales grew 4.93 percent MoM but fell by a significant 29.30 percent YoY as it stood at 2,258 units. It was followed by Reanult Kiger that sold 929 units, falling 64.82 as compared to 2,641 units sold in August 2022.
