MUMBAI: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan on Monday shot dead four people on board a train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra, said an official.
“The jawan fired from his automatic weapon, killing an ASI, one pantry car worker and two passengers of the train, which was en route to Mumbai from Jaipur,” the official said.
According to reports, the firing took place at around 7am.
“Four casualties have been reported in the firing incident inside the Jaipur Express train (12956). DCP, north GRP, has been informed,” said Railway Protection Force official.
The accused, Chetan Singh, had complained of restlessness and had been asked to rest. He was part of the escorting RPF team on the train, said reports.
“The accused constable has been detained along with his weapon,” said Western Railways officials.
