A tragic incident unfolded in New Jersey as an Indian-origin couple and their two children were found dead in their Plainsboro home in the US state of New Jersey. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.
The victims have been identified as Tej Pratap Singh, 43 and Sonal Parihar, 42 alongside their 10-year-old son, and 6-year-old daughter who were found dead inside their Titus Lane residence around 4:30pm on Wednesday, the police officials said.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Eamon Blanchard of the Plainsboro announced on Thursday that a homicide is currently under investigation.
On the evening of October 4, authorities received a 911 call requesting a welfare check at the Plainsboro residence.
The Plainsboro Police Department arrived at the scene and found the four deceased in the house, said the authorities in a joint statement.
According to a NJ.Com, “This tragedy remains under investigation, and autopsies are being performed today,” the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. They also said that there is currently no threat to the public, and they are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area to contact the Plainsboro Police Department.
Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu and Chief Eamon Blanchard, Director of Public Safety, said the community has experienced a great loss.
“We are all saddened by this tragic event. What happened in our community is beyond comprehension,” stated Mayor Peter Cantu.
The police are working diligently with other law enforcement agencies to conclude the investigation.
Chief Blanchard said, “Please be assured that this is an isolated occurrence and there are no additional concerns for the safety and well-being of the community related to this incident.”
“Our public safety personnel remain vigilant and resilient and will continue to ensure the safety of the Plainsboro community,” the joint statement said as per reports.
The family’s home on Titus Lane remains under investigation, and crime scene tape surrounds the property as footage from News 12 New Jersey showed.
The family’s remains were discovered after a relative requested a welfare check, and police initially considered the tragedy as a possibility of a murder-suicide.
According to CBS news, relatives and community members were shocked by the family’s deaths, as Tej Pratap Singh and Sonal Parihar appeared to be a happy couple and were quite involved in their community.
The relatives said that both Singh and Parihar had careers in the IT field and Singh worked as a lead APIX engineer for Ness Digital Engineering according to his LinkedIn profile.
The school district also expressed condolences, as the couple’s children were students in local elementary schools as News 12 New Jersey reported.
Superintendent David Aderhold from the West-Windsor Plainsboro district expressed condolences, saying, “The district was informed by local law enforcement of a horrific tragedy involving one of our Plainsboro families with a Wicoff student and a Millstone River School student.”
The Plainsboro Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office have collaborated on the investigation. Public records revealed that the couple had purchased their Titus Lane home in August 2018 for $635,000.
Neighbors described the family as friendly and frequently seen strolling around the peaceful neighborhood.
A neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, had a close relationship with the family said she typically met the 6-year-old girl at the bus stop for their daily school commute.
The neighbour said “It was weird for me to not see her in the morning.”
The neighbor noted that it was concerning and texted Sonal Parihar later that morning but received no response.
