NEW DELHI: Winning a cricket match by hitting a six is always an icing on the cake but KL Rahul was surprised after sealing the deal with a maximum in India’s opening World Cup match against Australia in Chennai on Sunday.

Rahul’s match-winning six left him not out on 97 but the chance of missing a century by mere three runs was quite evident on his face as he was down on his knees shocked.

He found the timing on that shot to be unexpected; his intention was to secure a four so that he could then aim for a six to complete his century.
However, his timing was so impeccable that the ball sailed all the way over the covers, depriving him of the opportunity to reach a triple-digit score.
“I wanted to get a hundred by going four and six. Hopefully some other time I can get it,” Rahul said after the match.

Talking about the match, Virat Kohli and Rahul hit defiant knocks to lift India from a perilous three down for two runs to a six-wicket win over Australia.
Chasing a tricky target of 200, India lost three batsmen, who all failed to score, inside two overs before Kohli (85) and Rahul put on 165.
India chased down the target with 52 balls to spare.
Spinner Ravindra Jadeja returned figures of 3-28 to help bowl out Australia for 199 in 49.3 overs in the 150th ODI meeting between the two cricket giants.
