CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday hit out at the Centre for rejecting the state’s tableau for the Republic Day parade, alleging that the BJP had discriminated against the state as it suffered from “anti-Punjab syndrome.”
Mann said three ideas for the tableau had been submitted by Punjab well in advance. These included ‘Punjab: History of sacrifice and martyrdom’, ‘Mai Bhago: The first lady warrior of Sikhism’, and the rich heritage of Punjab.“These tableaux rejected by the Centre would now be exhibited at the R-Day events to be held in the state on January 26,” he said.
“This is not the first time that our state’s tableau has been rejected. Last year also, the Centre had done the same mischief by rejecting our tableau. The power-mad Centre is demeaning and humiliating the enormous sacrifices of Punjabi freedom strugglers. The Centre has ignored the contribution of the state by rejecting the tableaux ideas,” Mann said, adding that it was unfortunate that the Centre conveyed its decision on the day when devotees from across the globe were paying obeisance at Fatehgarh to Chhote Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.
