JAIPUR: A 22-month-old boy admitted to a private hospital in Bharatpur for hernia operation died after being administered the anaesthesia.
Family members alleged that the child, named Kanha, was given a wrong injection before the operation on March 5, after which he became brain dead. He died during treatment at a Jaipur hospital on Friday.
Police have registered a case against the hospital owner, Dr Govind Gupta, on a complaint lodged by the boy’s father, Hari Singh, a resident of Konthara village in UP’s Mathura district.
Mathura Gate police station SHO Karan Singh said the boy’s family arrived in Bharatpur on March 5.
He was taken for the operation the same evening. The doctor administered the anaesthesia injection in Kanha’s arm and spinal cord, after which his pupils were dilated.
The staff inside the operation theatre attempted to revive the child, but in vain. The doctor then informed the family that the child’s brain function had stopped. They were advised to immediately transport the child to Jaipur, which they promptly did.
Kanha was admitted to a private hospital in Jaipur, where the doctor informed the family that the child was brain dead, with minimal chances of survival.
