NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Tuesday shared a rather funny anecdote from its archive in a post on X ahead of the upcoming elections.
The headline ‘Adolf Lu Hitler arrested by John F Kennedy‘ in a newspaper instantly ignited nationwide interest due to the unmistakable similarity of the names involved.
The unexpected twist? It wasn’t the infamous German dictator being nabbed by the late American president’s ghost, rather, the arrest of then NCP candidate Adolf Hitler by Superintendent of Police John F Kennedy during the assembly elections in Meghalaya in 2008.
Kennedy had arrested Hitler for allegedly violating the model code during campaigning for the assembly polls.
Hitler eventually won the seat he was contesting from Meghalaya.
Last year, Hitler joined the Trinamool Congress.
