On March 28, BTS member SUGA began his mandatory military service by entering the Nonsan training center, as reported by media outlet Dispatch. This marks the beginning of SUGA’s three-week basic military training, a crucial step in his service obligation.
Having commenced his mandatory service as a public service worker back in September 2022, SUGA will now proceed to fulfill the remaining duration of his duties following the completion of his basic training.Unlike the conventional route where recruits typically undergo basic training before assuming their assigned roles, SUGA opted to start his service as a public service worker before completing his basic training, as permitted by current enlistment regulations.
The decision to pursue public service before basic training is a strategic choice available to enlistees, particularly for those who prioritize certain preferences or circumstances. By opting for this route, individuals like SUGA have the opportunity to secure their designated positions without the uncertainty of the random assignment process that often accompanies basic training. This route can be particularly advantageous for individuals seeking placements close to their homes or specific locations, which also might result in longer waiting periods due to limited availability of positions in public services.
Suga aka Min Yoongi began his military service on September 22, 2023, and is set to be discharged on June 21, 2025.
