TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh‘s Kadapa Police on Tuesday arrested Shaikh Dasthagiri — an approver in former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case — for his alleged involvement in a girl kidnapping case.

It is learned that the Muslim girl, who is closely related to Dasthagiri, had married a scheduled caste boy last month, much against the will of her family members.
Based on the plea by the girl’s mother about the marriage, Dasthagiri threatened the boy, picked up the girl at Yerraguntla and was on his way back to Kadapa when the cops apprehended him on kidnapping charge.

He was arrested and sent to remand.
Meanwhile, Dasthagiri’s wife Shaik Shabana staged a demonstration in front of the police station, accusing the police of high-handedness as they prevented her from meeting her husband.
“Police are trying to arrest him under provisions of SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act, which is unacceptable. If anything happens to my husband, the police and the government should be held responsible,” she said.
