NEW DELHI: Delhi finance minister Atishi on Wednesday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was not in the running to become the prime minister of the country.
Atishi’s statement came hours after the AAP’s chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said she would like Arvind Kejriwal to be the INDIA bloc’s prime ministerial candidate.

Atishi, however, said that could be Kakkar’s personal opinion.

Want Arvind Kejriwal to be PM candidate: AAP’s Priyanka Kakkar ahead of INDIA alliance meeting in Mumbai

“Let me make it official. Arvind Kejriwal is not in the running to become the prime minister of India. We have joined the INDIA alliance to save the constitution, the democracy, and the country,” Atishi said.
The Delhi minister’s statement holds significance as it comes just a day before the opposition alliance’s crucial meeting in Mumbai to chalk out a joint campaign strategy to take on the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and iron out the differences among themselves.
Kakkar had earlier said Kejriwal had always presented a budget that was “profitable and pro-people”.
“As a spokesperson, I would propose our national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s name,” Kakkar said.
