‘Burn injuries, nose & teeth broken’: Army officer, wife held for assaulting 16-year-old domestic help in Assam | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: An Army officer and his wife have been arrested for brutally assaulting their domestic help in Haflong in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, police said on Wednesday. The couple has been sent to judicial custody by a court.
According to Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kumar, the 16-year-old girl had been employed at the Army officer’s residence for the past two years, enduring physical abuse for approximately one year.

“Injury marks are spotted from head to toe. Burn injuries, bruises and head injuries have been spotted on her body. Doctors have also found teeth, nose and ear of the victim broken. The condition of the girl is critical and she is undergoing treatment,” he added.
He added that the matter came to light after a video of the girl was widely circulated on social media on September 24. Acting promptly, the cops arrested the Army officer and his wife on September 25.
“A case has been registered under the stringent POCSO and SC/ST Acts and other relevant sections. Charges of assault, unlawful labour, and slavery have also been added,” Mayank Kumar further added.
