India on the cusp of being Vishwa Guru, says Mohan Bhagwat At Republic Day function at Sangh headquarters | India News

NAGPUR: The country has immense potential to emerge as the ‘vishwa guru’ (world leader) in a few years and people will have to dedicate themselves to selfless service, collective well-being and leave aside differences in national interest, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak (chief) Mohan Bhagwat on Friday. He also stressed on maintaining the sanctity of the Constitution, while addressing RSS volunteers after a flag hoisting function at the Sangh headquarters on Republic Day.
“The world expects India to emerge as the ‘vishwa guru’ and this is also the aspiration of Indians. People should keep in mind that the saffron on the national flag symbolises dedication and the dharma chakra (wheel) stands for brotherhood, which is true religion. These values should be imbibed as we celebrate Republic Day,” he said.
He said India has progressed because the nation’s collective spirit has been awakened and people’s conduct should reflect values enshrined in the constitution. “The entire country is celebrating Republic Day and a similar sentiment swept the nation on January 22 too. However, the spirit witnessed on Republic Day should not be temporary,” he said.

Where did this strength come from? It was always there in us. And this fructifies when we are bound by brotherhood. And great heights were scaled whenever we realized our potential,” he said.
“One’s entire strength should be channelized for uplift of all. We may have different appearances, but all are one. India has a tradition of embracing diversity and diversity has not been a cause of separatism,” said Bhagwat.
The RSS chief said he believes the preamble, citizens duties, citizen’s rights and the guiding principles are in the core of the constitution, which were adopted unanimously by the constituent assembly. The conduct of the people should be guided by these elements, he added.
Bhagwat said, Babasaheb Ambedkar had said he ensured political and economic freedom in the constitution. “A spirit of brotherhood can ensure that people get freedom on political and economic fronts,” he added, citing Ambedkar. Further quoting Ambedkar, Bhagwat said, principles of liberty, equality and fraternity were not drawn from the French revolution, but from teachings of the Buddha. Elsewhere in the world, it’s difficult to maintain a balance between freedom and equality and only brotherhood can bring the two together, he said.
