NEW DELHI: Jasprit Bumrah will finally make his return to international cricket after a long injury layoff as the BCCI’s senior selection committee announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland to be played in Dublin.

Bumrah has also been appointed skipper for Team India after the second string team was picked for the Ireland tour.

The three T20Is will take place on August 18, 20 and 23.

The selectors have also included Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna in the squad.
The right-arm quick last played for India in an ODI match against Zimbabwe in August last year before undergoing a surgery for stress fracture.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will lead India in Asian Games scheduled from September 23 to October 8, has been named as the vice-captain of the side.
Bumrah underwent a successful back surgery in March, which has kept him out of competitive cricket since a T20I match against Australia in September 2022. Although he briefly returned to action during the Australia T20I series, the injury resurfaced, leading to further setbacks.
Bumrah’s road to recovery has been challenging. He was selected for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in January this year after starting his rehabilitation in November the previous year and resuming bowling in December. However, as his fitness drills intensified in January, he experienced discomfort once again.

Due to his injury, Bumrah was unable to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. The medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru had initially planned for his return during this year’s Asia Cup, which is scheduled to begin on August 30.
Squad: Jasprit Bumrah (Capt), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, W Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan
