NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday released the third list of nine candidates in Tamil Nadu for Lok Sabha elections.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai will contest from Coimbatore, former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan from Chennai (South), Union minister L Murugan from Nilgiris and Nainar Nagendran from Tirunelveli. The list also includes Radhakrishnan, T R Paarivendhar, Narasimhan and AC Shanmugam.
The saffron party, which inked a pact with smaller parties and outfits, including TMC and AMMK and estranged AIADMK leader and former chief minister O Panneerselvam, would hope for a better performance in Tamil Nadu in Lok Sabha polls this year.
The party could not win a single seat in 2019 Lok Sabha polls when it contested in alliance with the AIADMK and PMK. The party won from Kanyakumari Lok Sabha seat in 2014. The party’s Tamil Nadu leaders, including state president K Annamalai, have launched all-out efforts to face the polls successfully.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the alliance led by DMK won 38 of the 39 seats. The alliance led by AIADMK, in which BJP and PMK were constituents among others, could manage to win only one seat. The lone Lok Sabha seat in Puducherry was bagged by the Congress, DMK’s ally.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu’s main opposition AIADMK released its final list of 16 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls and also named its candidate for the lone Puducherry Parliamentary constituency.
The AIADMK has completed the exercise of naming nominees and allotting seats to allies, and party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami is all set to launch his election campaign from Tiruchirappalli on March 24.
