Mamata specifically highlighted the pending funds related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and emphasized that it is constitutionally mandatory to pay the workers for their employment. She expressed concern that the state did not receive any allocation in the budget for 2022-23 for 100 days of work under MGNREGA. Additionally, she noted the cessation of funds for the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna, closure of rural development schemes, and discontinuation of the health mission program.
The chief minister stated that West Bengal has provided all the required clarifications, and the prime minister suggested a joint meeting involving officials from both the Centre and the state to resolve the issues. Mamata reiterated that in a federal structure, both the central government and the state have their respective shares, emphasizing that it is unjust to withhold funds meant for the welfare of the poor. She asserted that the Centre owes Rs 1.15 lakh crore to West Bengal.
