The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contested the assembly polls here for the first time, fought in four seats. Also, there were 17 Independent candidates. Since achieving full statehood in 1987, Mizoram’s political landscape has been primarily shaped by the Congress and the Mizo National Front (MNF). Zoramthanga, the President of the MNF and the Chief Minister, has emerged as a prominent figure in this election. However, urban voters express heightened enthusiasm for the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and anticipate Lalduhoma as their new Chief Minister. Lalduhoma, president of Zoram People’s Movement, which is the main contender of the ruling Mizo National Front, said his party will form a stable government in Mizoram for the next five years.
