On this date, the court will consider his plea for regular bail in a money laundering case.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Jain, mentioned the plea before a bench comprising Justices AS Bopanna and Bela M Trivedi, leading to this decision.
“In accordance with the order issued on October 10, the matter is scheduled for a hearing on November 6, 2023, at 3 pm before a bench presided over by Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Bela M Trivedi. Meanwhile, the previously granted interim bail shall remain in effect until the next hearing date,” stated the bench.
Before this, the SC had previously extended Jain’s interim bail until October 9.
The court had also cautioned him against using the ongoing proceedings as a means to postpone the trial in the case.
The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that the AAP leader sought multiple adjournments in the trial court, citing the pending status of his bail plea before the SC.
According to the probe agency, Jain obtained as many as 16 adjournment dates in the trial court.
On May 26, the SC had initially granted Jain interim bail for a period of six weeks to undergo spinal surgery, emphasizing that every citizen has the right to receive medical treatment of their choice in a private hospital at their own expense.
Later, on September 12, the court further extended Jain’s interim bail in the case, now valid until September 25.
The Enforcement Directorate took into custody the AAP leader on May 30 of the previous year, alleging his involvement in money laundering through four companies purportedly connected to him.
The arrest of Jain was made in connection with a CBI FIR filed against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Jain was granted regular bail in the case registered by the CBI on September 6, 2019, by the trial court.
